I might be a Spring baby, but I’m no Spring chicken. I’m all about Autumn/Winter. I love those smokey eyes, live for the vampy lips. All these pinks don’t suit my pre-rougued cheeks and I can’t be dealing with this fresh-faced malarky – this face sans mascara equals boiled egg.

With that in mind, imagine my surprise when I spied a spring collection what wasn’t pinks, pastels and pearls. It’s theatrical, tempestuous and very, very tempting. Oh, and it’s Nars.

This is my kind of spring. It’s still a little gloomy without being dull. It’s cleaner, and more chic than winter. Tilda Swinton’s striking campaign imagery, shot by Francoise Nars himself, draws you in across the beauty hall. That liner. Those eyes. In my case, I was hooked the second uber-enabler Kat (of SophistiKat – a must read) posted a picture of the Inoubliable Coup D’Oeil eyeshadow palette – and before you ask, no, I’ve no idea how to pronounce that.

Yes, it’s a notably refined campaign – but something doesn’t have to be grand to make an impression. If, like me, you’re partial to a wisp of smoke around the eye this collection is for you. Select shimmers and plenty of deep, brooding matts. Softer than our dramatic party looks of the previous months, yet with comparable amounts of attitude.

Two neat eyeshadow palettes, featuring a mix new names and a few from the standing collection. The shadow sticks, oh be still by heart, are soft, packed with pigment and perfectly edited. Not 48hrs after snatching up the cooler toned palette the thunder-cloud grey of Reykjavik was mine also.

I may never give up my brooding blacks but with this collection providing something of a cool, smokey eye rehab – maybe I will change it up this spring.
