The Green Eyed Mystery

Is it blasphemous to recreate one brand’s look with another brand’s product? Possibly, but I’ve gone and done it anyway. Spring usually sees the same bridal-esque pretty pallets of pinks and pearly shimmers. Stark contract to the rich golds and blacks of mere weeks previous.

This year there’s a little micro-trend of soft, garden green popping up in these pallets. Soft, almost turquoise it’s featured in both Dior’s Kingdom of Colour and Clarins Garden Escape collection.

It got me a bit curious, so I had a dig around in the eyeshadow drawer (read: overflowing, disorganised heap) and tried it out for myself.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge – Buyer Be Careful

Tools of the trade. As I’ve worked my way through brushes, blenders and everything in between. I’ve by no means tried everything – but recently something has stopped me in my tracks.

This is less a warning to buyers, more a warning to the makers – you’re letting a great product down.

NYX Christmas Giveaway

NYX, much sought-after, cult-classic American import arrived on our shores and into our pharmacies this year. So far anything I’ve tried from the brand has lived up to every bit of hype.

So of course when they announced their Christmas palettes I did a little happy dance. May I present from the collection Butt Naked; a triple threat of neutral necessities – containing 15 cool neutral shadows in shimmering and matt finishes, 5 blushes from cool pink to rich, rusty red and a trio of glow-givers from bronzing to highlighting. I’ve cooed over it for many hours but seeing as it’s the season of giving, I’ve decided to make it the subject of the very first GirlAboutTown Giveaway (#GATGiveaway)

Back To Basics feat. Nima Brush

Before we talk about blushes, bases or brows – we must first go back to basics. A poor workman will blame his tools, but with good brushes the hard work is done for you.

Few people know brushes like Niamh Martin, who I’m glad to welcome as my first interviewee here on Girl About Town. She knows brushes so well she’s made her own, now launching her latest, and most beautiful, collection yet – The Artistic Collection. So we sat down over a Diet Coke and a Hot Chocolate to talk (not-so) bare necessities and insider tips.

Jewel Toned Nails

T’is the season for dark nights, twinkly lights, rich food and even richer colours. The perfect accompaniment to the long evenings and candle-lit dinners, jewel-toned nails fit right in among the fairy lights, dressing up any black dress (of which I have many) and really pop against a glass of mulled wine (of which I also plan on having many).

Of course, this being the season of sparkle, it helps to sport some super shiny polishes that can keep up with the party, and I’ve got just the ticket.

Lashings of Love

More often than not, I’ll apply a third coat of mascara rather than risk ruining my liquid liner with unruly lashes. Hours have been spent in awe of those girls who effortlessly “pop” on a strip of lashes as if it’s nothing. How do they do it?

Now, I’m no expert, but I am an enthusiast. I’ve tried everything from buying my own glue, buying pre-glued lashes, getting new tweezers, using my fingers, looking down into a mirror, looking straight ahead into the mirror… the list went on. Loosing the will to live, I turned to the experts for advice.

The Floating Manicure

I’ll be first to admit that I am caught in an eternal struggle between constantly buying nailvarnish and longing for an evening spent in the nail salon. I shudder to think how many pay cheques are sitting in that overflowing shoe box.

So I’m trying to make more of an effort to mute my manicure cravings by getting more adventurous with my personal paint jobs – starting with The Floating Manicure, hot off the catwalk and straight into my heart.
