They’re the friends who always have a new hot spot up their sleeve. They get excited about ingredients you can’t even pronounce let alone have ever heard of. In theory, they should be easy to buy for – but you’ve already exhausted every variation of the oil and vinegar set.
What do you buy the friends who’ll eat anything?
Cook books can be tricky. Some will scoff at celebrity offerings, others may prefer to “feel” their way through meal creation. The book of the moment is the just-released (a good indication that they may not already have it) cook book from the brothers behind The Happy Pear. With the countey and its mother on some sort of health kick, the boys’ happy, healthy recipes could be just what ypu need come the January detox season – and their enthusiasm around good, wholesome food is positively contagious. I’ve spied it in many a book and homeware shop around the city.
I’m a firm believer that a voucher isn’t a cop out, provided you give it due consideration. While choosing a restaurant from which to buy a voucher may be daunting when you’ve got a foodie friend who seems to already have beeneverywhere – fear not, you can leave the deliberation to them! Dine in Dublin are selling vouchers redeemable in 30 of Dublin finest eateries (including such scrumptious spots as Bang, Pichet and my personal favourite Saba), available in values ranging from 10 – 50 and valid up to until the end of March. What’s also great is they’re on sale in the Stephens Green Christmas Market so you can treat yourself to a mulled wine while you’re there because lord knows you deserve it …
If all else fails, you can always head to the mecca that is Stock beside Stephens Green Shopping Centre by the Gaiety and loose yourself in kitchen gadget heaven. In the past I’ve picked up slick granite cheese boards, cute baking accessories, every colour apron and more adorable salt and pepper shakers than any sane person would need. With the baking craze still going strong, it could even work in your favour should you greatful foodie friend promote you to chief taste tester as they take your gift for a spin.
All this talk of food is making me hungry …
